An a Cappella Performing Chorus and Chapter of the National Barbershop Harmony Society. Our motto? Keep the Whole World Singing! Whether competing against the top Barbershop Choruses in the world, or reaching out to South Florida’s youth with music education programs, the Sunshine Chordsmen are sure to bring a smile to music lovers everywhere.
Established in 1985, the Sunshine Chordsmen were formed to compete with South Florida’s rapidly growing musical ensembles, and to raise interest in this expanding, cutting-edge form of a Cappella harmony. Performing at a variety of outdoor festivals, vocal concerts halls, and in other local musical venues, has allowed the Sunshine Chordsmen to reach a level of excellence unparalleled in South Florida.
The Sunshine Chordsmen boasts a wide variety of accomplishments and competitive successes. On a State level, Fort Lauderdale’s Chapter has been setting new standards for achievement and overall vocal improvement, winning "Most Improved Chorus" twice in 2000 and becoming Champion of their Plateau. The level of quality in each performance continues to present a professional and enjoyable experience for all. "Singing Is life! The Rest Is Just Details!"

Founded in 1938 as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA) Inc., the national Barbershop Society is more than just the choruses and quartets you listen to. It is the largest all male singing organization in the world, with more than 30,000 members in over 800 chapters in the U.S.A. and Canada. Doctors, Plumbers, Lawyers, Truck Drivers, Store Managers, all come together to experience the fellowship created by this unique art form.
vThe Society is proud to support the following programs with proceeds from our performances:
"Young Men In Harmony" is a multi-faceted effort to reach teachers, administrators, students and the community. Its purpose is to introduce students to this style of choral music to make singing a lifelong activity. YMIH has evolved to include HARMONY EXPLOSION and Youth Harmony Camps, National Collegiate Barbershop Quartet Contest, Music Teacher Education, Festivals and Clinics.
Harmony Foundation [Sing...for life!] actively guides all fund raising for the benefit of the society. It supports special projects, including Directors College Scholarships, Harmony Explosion Camps, the Heritage Hall Museum of Barbershop Harmony, that guides the growth of an endowment program and grant education and services for districts and chapters. Locally, the Sunshine Chordsmen have impacted the artisans of South Florida at every outdoor festival, community concert and outreach program in which we perform. But winning choral competitions and making public appearances throughout South Florida is not all the Sunshine Chordsmen have to offer!
Quartet singing is another colorful and dynamic way to experience the sensation of Barbershop Harmony. The Chordsmen display several accomplished quartets that are available for public galas, private performances for virtually any special occasion. Our quartets have been heard on the radio, seen at local shopping malls, experienced at professional sporting events and have affected music lovers everywhere.
Each February quartets from the Fort Lauderdale Sunshine Chordsmen deliver “Singing Valentines.’ What better way to say ‘I love you’ on Valentine’s or Mother’s Day, than a quartet appearance at your loved one’s work or home. It is the longest running and most successful program the Chordsmen feature.
